Job opportunity - citizen science co-ordinator for River Chess

Here’s a fantastic opportunity to work as a Citizen Science Co-ordinator at Chilterns National Landscape to support volunteers involved in our Smarter Water Catchment programme to track the health of a chalk stream, the River Chess, in response to £3M of investment in integrated catchment management. We are looking for a passionate and inspiring person, driven to make a practical difference on the ground, to run and develop an existing package of work. You can find more information about the project and key findings from our first four years of work here: We also want to grow the Citizen Science network in the Chilterns, so the post-holder will also help support the development of initiatives across the Chilterns National Landscape. The post is full time for 12-months, and the closing date for applications is 9am on 30 June 2025.

“Mobilising science and society to restore the Danube River Basin: Exploring routes to collective action”

In our matchmaking workshop we bring together scientists doing research related to Danube River Basin ecosystems and Citizen Science practitioners, to find new ways to collaborate on the common goal of improving the Danube river’s ecological status, biodiversity and ecosystem connectivity (See our agenda below). At the summit, you will be getting the unique opportunity to learn about and discuss together with young adults, teachers, researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders: What are the scientific findings of Plastic Pirates – Go Europe! On plastic pollution in European rivers and oceans? What have we learnt about plastic pollution sources, pathways and hotspots? What was the experience for young adults in the citizen science initiative across Europe and what can we learn from their feedback? How has participation affected their knowledge and attitudes? How does citizen science and engagement contribute to the monitoring and implementation of EU policies for ocean and waters What has been learned over the course of the project from upscaling and Europeanising a citizen science campaign to 13 European countries? What kind of lessons can be drawn for local, regional, national and European public engagement, for combatting plastic waste pollution, for supporting citizen science initiatives, and for the European Research Area as a whole?
