YouCount's final conference
Bruxelas (Bélgica) e Online05:00
De 04 Dez até 05 Dez, 2023
How can we shape an inclusive society for young people at risk of exclusion in Europe?
The Horizon 2020 research and innovation project YouCount explored this question through co-creative research with youth and local stakeholders in nine countries across ten cases. After two years of hands-on Youth Citizen Social Science work, YouCount will share experiences and look ahead to discuss findings and potential impacts on EU policies and beyond.
The first day includes a seminar focusing on hands-on Youth Citizen Social Science and a welcome reception.
The second day kicks off with the final conference discussing implications of key findings with stakeholders and policymakers. On both days, the voices of our young co-researchers will be amplified during presentations, interactive sessions, round table discussions and an exhibition.
The event will be free of charge and partly hybrid. Contribute to societal change through Youth Citizen Social Science
Accelerating Climate Action through Citizen Science: Role of COP 28 and Beyond
Green Education Pavilion Al Fanar. Dubai (EAU)05:15
De 02 Dez até 02 Dez, 2023
"Accelerating Climate Action through Citizen Science: Role of COP 28 and Beyond,” is organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), U.S. Department of State and New Indian Model School (NIMS), Dubai. Ocean health and environmental education experts and alumni educators of “Project Ocean Matters” will map the nexus between oceans and climate change; the role of citizen science tools such as the “Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment” (GLOBE), and the “Microplastic Monitoring Protocol Trial” (MMPT). A mock COP by students of NIMS, Dubai will highlight the role of youth and educational institutions in accelerating Climate Action.
CitSci India 2023
OnlineDe 01 Dez até 02 Dez, 2023
The 4th annual conference on citizen science for biodiversity, CitSci India 2023, will be held virtually on the 1st and 2nd of December, 2023. The conference on Day 1, will kick start with discussions on how citizen science can further education goals, and on Day 2 we will explore the challenges of inclusion in citizen science and explore ways of engaging with a diverse audience.
Each year the conference brings together people who actively engage in citizen science to showcase existing citizen science projects and share their experiences and insights on the use of citizen science to monitor, protect, and restore biodiversity.
Workshop: legal issues regarding citizen generated data for the water domain
Online10:00
De 27 Nov até 27 Nov, 2023
Join OTTERS for a workshop on legal issues around citizen science
The OTTERS project promotes societal transformation for marine and freshwater stewardship through scaling up citizen science. Join for an online workshop on 27 November, 14:00-15:30 (CET), to discuss legal issues around water-based citizen science and engagement, including data protection, cross-border considerations, and compliance.
The event will include presentations from Professor Georgios Sylaois (Democritus University of Thrace, Greece), DG MARE / Digital Twin Ocean and more, followed by a co-creation workshop to define legal recommendations.
If you are interested in practical legal considerations in citizen science projects, register now. The OTTERS project promotes societal transformation for marine and freshwater stewardship through scaling up citizen science, and supports the coordination of citizen science initiatives focused on water.
This workshop focuses on legal issues around water-based citizen science and engagement (including GDPR and citizens’ privacy). Key topics of discussion will be:
● Data protection and privacy risks and challenges, with respect to marine and freshwater related citizen science piloting.
● Autonomy, dignity, informed consent, trust, asymmetries of power, fairness, gendered innovation, equity and direct or indirect discrimination.
● The cross-border character of the OTTERS project.
● Applicable or emerging legislation and anticipatory compliance requirements.
INCENTIVE Replication Guide and Toolkit Workshop
Online09:00
De 21 Nov até 21 Nov, 2023
⏳ Registration is open until 20 November, 2023.
The INCENTIVE project aims to demonstrate the potential of citizen science through the co-creation, establishment and assessment of Citizen Science Hubs in four EU Universities. By doing so, the project accelerates the transition of these institutions to more inclusive, open and democratic innovation and scientific governance, under the principles of Responsible Research and Innovation. The project seeks to deliver a legacy to European and international research institutes on how to create and operate their own Hub with the aim to secure a sustainable future.
One of the final and main results and outcomes of the INCENTIVE project is the production of a replication guide and toolkit. The aim of this guide is to serve as a practical tool for RPFOs on their journey to institutionalising citizen science. It will include roadmaps and lessons learned throughout the project, providing practical recommendations, methodologies and tools to overcome potential barriers and obstacles in the process.
To ensure that the replication guide and toolkit is as practical and valuable as possible, we would like to invite citizen science practitioners, researchers and relevant stakeholders to provide their experiences, feedback and thoughts as we present the first version of the document.
Join us for a workshop to exchange ideas, discuss lessons learned and share personal stories on the road to institutionalising citizen science. Come join us for an interactive session!
Autumn Data School - Citizen Science Workshop
Online00:00
De 15 Nov até 15 Nov, 2023
Historical biodiversity documents comprise an important link to the long-term data life cycle and provide useful insights into several aspects of biodiversity research and management. By rescuing historical data, we better understand the ocean’s past, and we are able to predict the future of ocean life.
Participants to the workshop will be introduced to scientific practices and concepts such as the workflow for a citizen science project, the data standardization process, and the (meta)data curation. In particular, in the morning session there will be the presentation of the LifeWatch Citizen Science Platform and the introduction to Zooniverse and Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), while the evening session will be dedicated to the setting up of participant’s Citizen Science projects through Zooniverse.
* Note that all data generated from this workshop will be made available through EMODnet Biology and due to established data flows, in OBIS and GBIF as well.
Participants are welcome to bring with them scanned logsheets from cruises they have participated, but in the absence of enough resources, the organising team can make documents available for the project creation in the citizen science platforms.
There is an enormous amount of (meta)data waiting to become FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), and citizen science data rescue is a promising resource towards this end.
If you are interested in participating, either online or in presence, you can register at the link.
