OpenTEK is a web-based platform in which any citizen in the world will be able to contribute with information on local indicators of climate change impacts, and researchers will be able to connect to each other to exchange knowledge and data. It is is a free and open source technology to document, visualize and share different types of information.

OpenTEK allows creating online platforms designed as progressive web-apps (PWA), in which users can visualize existing geolocalized data and contribute new data from any device and while in the field.

The data in OpenTEK is a mix of Indigenous and local observations and scientific interpretations of these. We recognize that this information might be subject to specific data protection rights and should be managed following the CARE principles of Indigenous data governance. In this line, we have decided to place the (Local Contexts) notices here to support the recognition of Indigenous interests and that will function as place-holders on OpenTEK data until TK or a BC Labels are added by the community to individual entries.

Goals and Background

Local Indicators of Climate Change Impacts - LICCI (https://licci.eu/) is a research project that wants to bring insights from local knowledge to climate research and policy. To do that, LICCI documents and classifies local observations of climate change impacts (e.g., changes in rainfall patterns or impacts of weather changes on wild animal abundance). LICCI has used Oblo technology to create the OpenTEK platform.
